Dear editor:
I want to thank all of the volunteers who gave of their time and emotions to prepare for this year’s Relay for Life.
No one can appreciate the purpose of such an event until they have either walked in the shoes of a cancer survivor or stood at the graveside of one who lost the battle. I have done both.
This event shows what our community is made of. Times are financially hard, yet there was a great support of teams participating.
My one and only disappointment was the attitude and disrespect of "some" of the youth during the lighting ceremony. I am sure they can recognize themselves if they are reading this letter or listening as their parent read it aloud.
The lighting ceremony is a quiet and an emotional time of recognition given to those who died of cancer, for those who are fighting cancer and for those who have survived.
I am sorry to say that my team could not hear the names being called due to the talking and playing around of the youth next to us and for those running around.
Even after being asked to please be quiet t.... they continued to be disruptive.
Prayerfully, one day there will be a cure for cancer. Until then, I sincerely hope those kids will not have to realize the hard way how their actions hurt those around them.
