Rants and Raves for May 9

“Jimmy Carter has no apologies to make to the nation. He sought peace whether others sought war. The peace between Israel and Egypt is still in effect.
Not ridiculous
“No. Two roadblocks on MLK Drive is not ridiculous if that’s where the problems are. If they weren’t there, then you would be complaining about a lack of police presence. Perhaps you are just a complainer.

Been there
“Yes, I’ve been to Mexico. And I’ve been abused by the authorities there. The police want bribes or else you wind up spending weeks in some dirty jail over a trumped up traffic charge.

Gas prices
“I realize Congress can’t set gasoline prices. What it can do is establish a national initiative on the magnitude of a Manhattan Project to deliver us from being held hostage by big oil, domestic and international.

Science/God
“Being a Christian does not mean one should not also study science. Science is a detailed revelation of the planet that we live on. Much of the Bible was written in a style that the people of ancient times could relate to. No, it’s not all meant to be taken literally. There are many parables and stories in the Bible that illustrate that man should not leave everything to God — that we should be proactive in our quality of life and our service to others via our intelligence.

Knowledge
“Do you suppose that God granted us wisdom and intelligence for a list of purposes. Could you believe that our pursuit of a cancer cure and other medical breakthroughs is not something we should drop just because the Bible does not literally demand that we take up these causes?

Applause
“Thank you, Moultrie, for your wonderful family entertainment on the square! With gas prices as they are, we need more local entertainment and festivals.

Is it written?
“Okay, where is it written that no CCHS student can participate in a sport without taking weight-lifting? Our kids take AP classes and have satisfied their state-mandated PE courses. Sounds like Coach Dawson is trying to save his job.

Job well done
“A job well done to the ROTC program at CCHS, you made May 5 a night to remember. I was so proud of all the accomplishments that the students were honored for. It shows that we still have disciplined children in Colquitt County.
