Rants and Raves for Aug 6
Firemen's pay
“Why is it that the City of Moultrie's firefighters don't get paid more? I was told by a young fireman that there are fireman that have been here some time that get payed under 9.50/hr. There are people that work for the city that just answer the phone that get paid more than that and they can't save your life in the middle of the night. We have a great fire department, but for how long? You get what you pay for.
Good for sports
“Sports are a great part of our life. It is fun to be involved, to read about, to listen and watch, and to discuss. It’s sad that Skip Caray has left us. Also sports writers Furman Bisher and Tony Barnhart are part of the AJC buy-out and downsizing we see in the printed press.
For a lot us they were a part of our daily life. At UGA we are still blessed to have a Larry Munson. These men reported more than victories and losses. They told great stories we enjoyed. We live in a cynical world today, but these writers and announcers were old school and did not have that trait. Thanks for the great calls and written lines!
Ongoing debate
“Looks like there will always be that ongoing tension between academics and athletics. The fact is, the two have gone side by side for centuries. Go back to the early days of Rome and Greece. There were great thinkers and great athletes. Hundreds of years from now, this debate will still be going on. The fact is, the public wants high school athletics. It’s about pride and entertainment. It’s not about one or the other as time has proved, it’s about having both.
Applause
“Thanks to Temple Baptist for beginning a Celebrate Recovery. I attended Saturday night and it's going to be a great asset to our community.
Many families are touched by the effects of drugs or alcohol, God bless Temple for reaching out.
