A big ‘thank you” to everyone who participated in the 2013 United Way of Colquitt County Campaign.
United Way plays a very unique and important role in our community. To put it simply, United Way is not about one cause or issue. It is about taking a holistic viewpoint of our community. It is about understanding the gravity and interconnectedness of all the social challenges we face. And it is about empowering a community to work together to build real solutions for today, tomorrow and forever.
The fact is poverty, homelessness, family violence; low graduation and literacy rates truly affect us all. When someone in our community has no shelter or a child at any one of our local schools is going hungry, the strength of our entire community is weakened. There is no doubt, we are all connected.
When you participated in the United Way Campaign this fall, you said ‘yes’ to sharing your time, your talent and your resources in favor of the common good. . . ‘yes’ to working united as a community for the community.
We thank you for your participation in our campaign and the success you afforded us to continue to work to provide solutions for our community issues.

One of our own
(Attention Colquitt County Board of Commissioners.)
I am aware the list of applicants for our new administrator has been narrowed to three candidates. In that list is one of our own, Chas Cannon.
In the first three months of 2014, Georgia has lost 35 of its residents to the ravages of fire. These numbers are among the highest in the nation during that time period and reflect the very real dangers that face each of Georgia’s residents when it comes to fire safety. Fire does not discriminate, and can strike at any time and in any type of home.

Hey guys, we aren’t going to win this one!
There must be a fine line between a dream and a nightmare. I think we can say that all nightmares are dreams but not all dreams are nightmares. Both can be stupid. Almost all of them are illogical.
Congratulations, you made school, community proud
If you were not at the 2014 Colquitt County High School Packer Idol competition this past Thursday, you missed a wonderful evening of music by some of the most talented students in our county.
