Helms second in Tennessee Invitational

MOULTRIE — Tennessee’s Ryan Helms finished second on the 1-meter springboard on Saturday in the first day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational being held in Knoxville.
Georgia’s Hannah Moore, who, like Helms, is a former Moss Farms diver, was third on 3-meter board.
The meet, which will run through Sunday, include some 100 divers from 17 schools, including six from the Southeastern Conference.
Helms, a freshman, turned in a 354.40 and finished behind Alabama’s Aaron Fleshner, who had a 371.40.
Georgia’s Owen Blank, also from Moss Farms, competed in the prelims, but did not qualify for the finals.
The women’s 3-meter event was won by Kate Hynes of Drexel, who had a 316.55.
Kara Salomone of Florida was second with a 316.05.
Moore, who is a sophomore at Georgia, had a 312.10, good for third place. She was ninth in prelims, but performed better in the finals.
Auburn’s Anna Aguero, also from Colquitt County and Moss Farms, competed in the 3-meter event, but was 16th in the prelims and did not qualify for the finals.
The men’s 3-meter an women’s 1-meter events will be held today.
The invitational will conclude on Monday with the men’s and women’s platform events.
