Colquitt prepares for visit by Bainbridge

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County basketball teams will try to put a pair of disappointing Region 1-AAAAA losses behind them when they play host to Bainbridge beginning at 7 tonight at the Espy Gymnasium.

The Lady Packers dropped a 40-39 loss to the Valdosta girls on Tuesday to fall to 1-1 in the region.

The Colquitt County boys were routed by the long-ball shooting Wildcats 81-39.

Colquitt’s girls defeated Bainbridge 57-55 on the road back on Dec. 12 to raise their record to 4-0, but they are 2-6 since.

Senior Nicolle Thomas led the victory over the Lady Cats, scoring 25 points, including two on jumper from the free throw line with 3.2 seconds left for the victory.

The Lady Packers have not reached the 57-point plateau since that game and found points particularly hard to come by on Tuesday.

Colquitt’s girls hit just 24 percent from the field and 44 percent from the free throw line.

The loss dropped the Lady Packers to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the region.

The Bainbridge girls are 8-5 and are coming off a 62-61 loss to East Gadsden on Tuesday.

The Colquitt County boys opened against the top two teams in the region and have falled 66-45 to Coffee on the road and 81-39 to Valdosta at home last Friday.

When the Packers played the Bearcats on the road last month, they were tied 45-45 heading into the final quarter before Bainbridge pulled away for a 64-61 victory.

The Packers are 5-7 overall. Bainbridge will bring a 10-3 overall record to the Espy Gymnasium today.

Six Region 1-AAAAA teams will be in action tonight with Lowndes traveling to Houston County, Coffee going to Northside and Valdosta traveling to Warner Robins.

The Coffee boys will be trying for a region-best fourth victory when they meet Northside, which was battered by Tift County 66-28 on Tuesday.

The Valdosta boys, 13-0 overall, will try to win their third straight region game when they face the 0-2 Demons
