MOULTRIE — After the rest of her Colquitt County girls tennis teammates had taken care of their Valdosta opponents on Thursday at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex, Cara McCalley held off Jessica Sharp and beat the rain to give the Lady Packers a 5-0 Region 1-AAAAA sweep.
The score was just the reverse in the boys match, where the Wildcats downed the Colquitt County boys 5-0.
McCalley, playing No. 1 singles won the first set 6-4 and had just started the second, when she and Sharp were pulled from the courts as it started raining.
The Lady Packers had already won and held a 4-0 advantage.
But when the drizzle stopped, the two went back out and Sharp took the second set 6-2.
But McCalley took care of business in the final set, winning 10-8.
“That was good experience for her,” said coach Linda Berl, whose team will take a 5-1 record to Tifton today for the 26th annual Tifton Rotary Club Tournament.
“She got to be out there playing all by herself in front of everybody.”
