Mixed martial arts is a full-contact combat sport in which a number of techniques are used.
Tournaments became popular in 1993 with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Over the last 10 years, mixed martial arts events have used additional rules for safety of the athletes and to promote acceptance of the sport.
