MOULTRIE — Moultrie YMCA MG gymnast Brooke Robinson scored a 35.05 all-around, good for 15th place, at the recent USAG Region VIII Championships.
The competition for Level 8 athletes from eight southern states was held at the Camp Jordan Arena in suburban Chattanooga, Tenn.
Louisiana edged Georgia and Florida for the top spot in the state team competition.
The soon-to-be 13-year-old Robinson competed in the Junior B age division. Her best placement was a fifth place on floor exercise.
“Brooke has always counted on a big bar score, but today it was an excellent floor routine (9.4) that stood out,” said Coach Bob Swadel.
“She went to bars first and had a little too much energy and adrenaline. She over-rotated her dismount, causing a fall, a .5 deduction, and an 8.7 (15th) score.
“Brooke shows a lot of promise on floor and her vault is getting much more consistent (8.825, 13th).
“I think that she will be a strong Level 9.”
Robinson added an 8.125 for 16th place, on balance beam.
She will join her Level 8 teammates at their final meet of the 2007-2008 season when they travel to Sheboygan, Wisc., for YMCA Nationals in late June.
