MOULTRIE — McKenzie Blanchett and Austin Mercer hit home runs to lead Mobley Plant to a 13-3 victory over Quality Employment in Midget League baseball action on Friday at the Magnolia Complex.
Mercer also was the winning pitcher and had two hits. Preston Berry and T.J. Roberson also had two hits for Mobley Plant.
Austin Hunnicutt had two hits, including a home run, and Brandon Chafin had an inside-the-park home run for Quality Employment, now 7-5.
In Friday’s other Midget League game, Ryan Pipkin singled in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Southwest Georgia Bank defeated Southwest Georgia Insurance 6-5.
Eric Gould was the winning pitcher and had two hits. Pipkin had three hits for Southwest Georgia Bank.
Harper-McCall sits atop the Midget League standings with an 10-1-1 record. Mobley Plant, 9-1-2, is second and is followed by Ameris, 9-3; Quality Employment, 7-5; Davis Insurance, 5-7; Southwest Georgia Bank, 4-7-1; Southwest Georgia Insurance, 2-10; and Market Barbecue, 0-12.
Custom Cabinets retained a portion of a first-place Farm League tie with its 15-1 victory over Ameris on Friday.
Jared Soyke, Joseph Gould, Kevin Snyder, Clayton Brooks, Logan Wheeler and Steven Flores each had two hits for Custom Cabinets.
Owen Harrell and Hayden Suggs each had two hits for Ameris.
Also on Friday in Farm League play, Southwest Georgia Bank defeated Rocky’s 13-7.
Buck Blalock had four hits; Drew Davis and Wheeler Hunnicutt each had three hits; and Landon Scott, Jordan Rosales, Bailey Kirkland and Jake Hart each had two for Southwest Georgia Bank.
Morgan Hart, Tyler Pifer, Kodi Bishop and Gavin Phillips each had two hits for Rocky’s.
Custom Cabinets and Lazarus are tied atop the Farm League standings wiht 9-2 records. McAlpin Signs and Rocky’s are tied at 8-3 and are followed by Random Design, 7-4; Southwest Georgia Bank, 7-4-1; Wendy’s 4-7-1; Ameris and Farm Bureau, 2-10; and Zaxby’s, 0-11.
Quality Employment leads the Pony League with a 12-0 record.
VFW is second at 8-4 and is followed by Ameris, 7-5; Southwest Georgia Bank, 6-6; Clements Pools, 2-10; and Edwards Motors, 1-11.
