Gymnasts fare well in Red, White and You
MOUTLRIE — The Moultrie YMCA MG’s hosted the recent 2008 Red, White and You Gymnastics Competition.
They welcomed 8 other teams to their annual competition.
They competition consisted of AAU Levels 2-Prep Op and USAG Levels 3-9.
The Level 5’s had a very eventful competition. It was their best meet of the year.
“The girls have been practicing really hard since their last meet. They set a team goal of having their best meet of the year and winning 1st place at their home meet,” said Coach Elizabeth Harrington.
The girls did just that. As a team, they won 1st place and increased their team score by over 1 1/2 points.
Kaydee Phillips led the group with a 35.30 all-around first, her personal best for the year and the new team all-around record.
She had an 8.55 on beam (tie for second), 9.00 on bars (first), 9.15 on beam, (first), and an 8.60 on floor (tie for third).
Timia Fowler had a 35.10 all-around which was 1st place in her age division.
She placed first on vault (8.625), beam (9.10), and floor (9.025). She placed second on gars with an 8.35.
Allison Fagan tied for 1st in her age division with a 34.525 all-around.
She placed first on Vault (8.75) and floor (8.55), 2nd on bars (8.60), and 3rd on beam (8.625).
Amber Kling also placed first in the all-around (33.075) in her age division.
Kling placed first on Vault (8.45) and set the team record on beam with a 9.35. Kling received second on floor with an 8.525 and 4th on bars.
“Amber had a rip on her hand (a tear in her skin) which made it very difficult to perform her bar routine. She pushed through the pain and completed her routine,” said Coach Wendy Scites.
