MOULTRIE — In the final week of Mite League girls softball play, Hunnicutt Farms kept the heat on league-leading Triangle Furniture following a 5-4 victory over Bull Durham Insurance on Monday at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
Winning a classic battle, Hunnicutt Farms remains with one a game of Triangle Furniture.
Lexi Price hit a two-run home run, scoring Regan Goforth, in the top of the first to take a early lead for Coach Josie Robinson’s team.
Bull Durham Insurance answered quickly in the bottom of the inning with runs by Amber Kling and Hayli Spradley to even the score at 2-2.
Carly Beth Horne gave the lead back to Hunnicutt Farms with a solo home run in the next inning. Hunnicutt Farms increased its lead to 5-2 in the third when Madison Robinson knocked in Goforth and Keri Morey.
Bull Durham Insurance closed the gap to 5-4 in the fifth when Diane Durham plated Savannah Boozer and Cadon Castle.
After holding Hunnicutt Farms scoreless in the top of the sixth, Coach Bull Durham’s group made one last effort to win the game, loading the bases with only one out, but failed to generate any runs.
In the only other game on Monday night, Morris Orthodontics broke open a 5-5 deadlock with Rocky’s by scoring five runs in the final inning on the way to a 10-5 victory.
Nikki Johnson had a big night, going 2-for-2, hitting a home run and scoring two runs.
Chazmin Singletary and Rebekah Ward led Rocky’s with two runs each.
Singletary and Alvonese Sanders had home runs.
