Published May 15, 2008 05:49 pm - MOULTRIE — The Red, White and You gymnastics meet was held last weekend in the Donald A. Blevins Gymnastics Center and all of the Moultrie YMCA teams broke their team scores and all placed first.
“It was an excellent meet with consistent scoring,” said Coach Pat Murphy. “It was a great way to end the season with everyone on a high.”


YMCA gymnasts strong in Red, White and You



MOULTRIE — The Red, White and You gymnastics meet was held last weekend in the Donald A. Blevins Gymnastics Center and all of the Moultrie YMCA teams broke their team scores and all placed first.

“It was an excellent meet with consistent scoring,” said Coach Pat Murphy. “It was a great way to end the season with everyone on a high.”

The level 3 AAU team earned a 107.7, two points higher than last meet.

Heather Grace Dunn led the team with a first place on all around, 35.5.

“Heather wasn’t even feeling good and still performed well. Her beam was beautiful,” said Coach Elizabeth Harrington.

Anna Williams, also feeling down, came through for the team earning two nines on vault, 9.0 second, and bars, 9.1 first in the 10-year-old age group.

“Anna has really an elegant way of moving which makes her look like a gymnast,” Murphy said.

Williams placed second on AA with a 35.375, first on floor, 8.775 and second on beam, 8.45.

Sarah Harrell was the next top gymnast earning 34.825. She had a personal best on vault, 9.05, first,and floor, 8.7, third and placed first on beam, 8.525, plus second on bars, 8.55.

“Sarah has really learned how to perform this season,” Murphy said.

Nea McLeMore was the team’s top 8-year-old with bests on bars, 9.125; floor, 8.7; and AA 34.525; all for first places.

“Nea’s bars were awesome, our team's best score,” said Murphy.

A new 8 -year-old to the team who competed was Caroline Talbot, who placed first on vault, 8.8, and fourth on AA, 33.15.

Jordan Penuel placed third on bars, 8.6; and fifth overall with her best score of 32.75.

Taylor McCord earned her best scores on vault, 9.05, first; floor, 8.875, second, and all around 34.4, third.
