Diver Moore also excelling in classroom

— Colquitt County’s Hannah Moore continues to excel on the diving boards and in the classroom at the University of Georgia.
Moore was recently named to the Director’s Honor Roll, which requires a student to have a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Of this and that:
• Colquitt County’s J.Todd Tucker had one of the two BassCast cameras in the boat with him on Thursday during the first day of the Bassmaster Elite River Rumble tournament at Ft. Madison, Iowa.
Tucker, who has been fishing in BASS events as a pro since 2002, accepted a spot in the Elite Series last fall.
• Former Colquitt County junior golfer Harris English has been selected for All-America honors by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
English was named to the third team.
Just a sophomore, English had a scoring average of 72.53 for the Bulldogs this season.
Five members of the Georgia men’s golf team were named All-Americas, including Brian Harman, Hudson Swafford and Russell Henley, who were named to the second team, and Adam Mitchell, who received honorable mention.
Georgia reached the semifinals of the NCAA Championships at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and finished the year ranked No. 1 by Golfstat and the GCAA.
• Moultrie’s Reed Wells, a freshman coxswain on the rowing team at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., had an outstanding season.
His varsity 8 (which includes eight rowers) and heavyweight 4 boards were undefeated the regular season and won state in their divisions.
At the Southeast Regionals, which included teams from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina, his boat took fourth place after advancing to the finals through the losers bracket.
All nine members of his boat will return next season and should be in a good position to challenge for first place in the Regionals and a trip to Nationals.
• LSU got seasonal best performance from its 4x100 team of Barrett Nugent, Will Coppage, Armanti Jamal Hayes and Trindon Holliday, which qualified for the final at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with the third-fastest of the day on Wednesday with a 38.72.
LSU was second in its heat behind the squad from Texas A&M (38.51).
Hayes, a junior from Colquitt County, ran a 46.62 in the 400 prelims, but did not qualify for finals.Di
