MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Caroline Rogers and Jared Horne took first-place finishes in the Moultrie Sharks-Georgia Games Invitational swim meet held Saturday at the Memorial Pool in the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
The meet drew swimmers from 11 teams, including the Bainbridge Extreme, Tiftarea YMCA Tidal Wave, Douglas Stingrays, Marianna Marlins, Thomasville Atac, Fitzgerald Fins, Stone Creek Coral Reefs, Aqua-Darts, Valdosta YMCA Piranha, Suwannee Swim Club and the Moultrie Sharks.
The Tidal Wave finished first with 1,598 points. The Thomasville Atac was second with 1,162 points.
The Sharks were sixth with 527 points.
Horne, swimming in the 15-18 boys age group, had a strong meet, finishing second in his age group with a team-leading 66 points.
He won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.34.
Horne also was second in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard individual medley. He was third in both the 100-yard freestsyle and the 50-yard backstroke.
Rogers won her gold medal in the girls 15-18 50-yard breaststroke event, finishing with a time of 37.33.
She also was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle; sixth in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard individual medley; and seventh in the 50-yard fly.
Connor Walsh had the team’s second-highest point total on Saturday.
He had three second-place finishes; a third-place finish; and a fourth-place finish to total 61 points and finsih tied for third in the 15-18 boys age group.
His second-place finishes came in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 59.46; the 50-yard breaststroke, with a 34.72; and the 50-yard butterfly, with a 31.90.
Austin Vines finished sixth in the 13-14 boys age group with 53 points.
His best finish was a third place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 37.300.
Vines also was fourth in both the 50-yard backstroke and the 100-yard freestyle; fifth in the 100-yard individual medley; and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Also swimming in individual events for the Sharks on Saturday were Madison Montgomery, Lauren Friedlander, Madison Chapman, Sarah Gibson, Savana Chapman, Rachel Bostick, Samantha Price, Joe Strickland, Caroline Harrell and Joshua Key.
The Sharks also got a pair of second-place finishes in the relay events.
The 15-18 boys 200-yard medley relay team of Strickland, Walsh, Vines and Key took a silver medal, as did the 200-yard freestyle team made up of the same four swimmers.
