MOULTRIE — Colquitt County High’s Heath Lamb is making the most of his summer, having qualified for the State Junior Olympics meet in Atlanta and the U.S. Track and Field Region Championships in Landover, Md.
Lamb, who competes for the Colquitt County High track team, was recommended by Coaches Kirven Davis and Dextra Polite to Coach Paul Jones of the Ruff Riders Track Club in Albany.
Jones is the coach of the outstanding Monroe High track team.
Lamb began training with the Ruff Riders at Albany State College and in his first meet in Macon earlier this month qualified for the state meet in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters, the decathlon and the 4x800.
His state-qualifying time in the 1,500 meter was a personal best 4:27.
While in Atlanta in the Junior Olympics State Championships, he was on the winning 4x800 team and placed ninth in the decathalon.
Lamb is joined on the 4x800 team by Diamond Jones, Eric Meredith and Eric Dean.
Lamb will be a senior at Colquitt County High this year.
He placed fifth in the 800 meters and was on the 4x400 relay team that was seventh in the Region 1-AAAAA track meet this year.
