Ex-Packer Hayes an All-American again

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will run through Saturday, when the championship game is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Also this week, Colquitt County 13-14 All-Stars are heading to Thomson; the 10-and-under All-Stars are going to Dublin; and the 10-and-under girls All-Star Sliders are heading to Vidalia as those team chase state championships.

n The annual Georgia-Florida-Alabama Minor League Baseball Reunion is scheudle for Aug. 21-22 and longtime chairman Clint Chafin wonders if it may be the last.

Attendance has fallen off in recent years. Last year’s event was bedeviled by Tropical Storm Fay, which hit the area during the reunion.

The reunion, which has been held the last eight years, has drawn former players, managers, bat boys, umpires and officials.

Jerry Alsup, who played for Andalusia, Crestview and Grace of the Alabama-Florida League, will be the speaker at the reunion banquet, which will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Colquitt County Agricultural Building.

Alsup has been a longtime attendee of the reunion.

For more information on the annual reunion, contact Clint Chafin at 985-9723 or 891-5622.
