MOULTRIE — The defending champions will not return, but there will be plenty of other golfers in the 54th Ramsey Pidcock Invitational, which will run Saturday and Sunday at Sunset Country Club.
Sunset golf professional Bob Windom said the 112-team field is the biggest in the tournament’s history.
Among the 224 golfers competing will be half of last year’s winning twosome.
Valdosta’s Allen Hampton and Sam Hogan shot a two-round total of 125 to beat former Pidcock champion Kevin Blanton and his teammate, former Georgia Amateur champion Adam Thomas, by three strokes last year.
Hogan will be back at Sunset on Saturday, but will be teamed with Greg Blais in the championship flight.
Hampton is not entered.
The 12-team championship flight appears to be a strong one, with Blanton chasing his fourth Ramsey Pidcock title. He will be playing with Greg Coop, who teamed up with Dan Jeter to win the third flight last year.
Former Colquitt County High player and current Darton College Cavalier Aaron Elrod will team with Pax Clark.
Brothers Brad and Chad Eunice also will be in the championship flight field, as will Colquitt County veterans Ernie Venet and Darin Bentz.
Venet again will play with Don Lucas. The two shot a 65-64 for a 129 to win the first flight last year.
Bentz is teamed with Marcus Beck, who joined Bill Moore in shooting a 133, good for fourth place, in 2007.
Also in the championship flight are the teams of Casey Willis and George Faircloth; Tucker Evans and David Green; Adrian Fletcher and Donnie Hawkins; Ronnie Cudd and Reb Benton; Gary Hilton and Brian Hill; and Mike Lott and Stephen Hall.
Colquitt County High golfers Clarke Hendrick and John Fordham will team up and play in the first first flight.
Also in the first flight are the teams of Reed Davis and Ben Fuller; Ray Bailey and Ron Lee; Andrew Dismuke and Mark Massey; Billy Edwards Jr. and Billy Edwards III; Ryan Moore and Gannon Hall; Bo Chambliss and Ramsey Merrill; Jonathan Bridges and Jared Bridges; John McKenzie and Patrick Leatherwood; Greg Parrish and Jeff Parrish; Donnie Edwards and Davis Edwards; and Tom Moody and Gene Miller.
Playing in the second flight will be the teams of George Atkins and Dean Esco; Grady Clements and and Reid Penuel; Jesse Tillman and Steve Stripling; Neal Clements and Joseph Key; Chad Oosterveen and Foy Shemwell; Patrick Carson and Bill Carson; John Lastinger and Mike Drumheller; Brent Harper and Brad Mathis; David Hughes and Sammy Craig; Bo Flowers and Buster Clements; Scott Dismuke and Phil Rouse; Gerald Johnson and Tom McCabe; and Nate Branch and Dug Schwalls.
