MOULTRIE — The Tift County eighth-grade football team defeated Colquitt County 37-12 on Thursday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium to finish its regular season with a 6-0 record.
The Blue Devils will meet Coffee next Wednesday in Tifton in the SGAC pionship game.
Tift County wasted little time in scoring on Thursday, with Josh Banks completing a 59-yard touchdown pass to Gerald Pledger on the third play of the game. Banks completed a pass for the 2-point conversion, putting the Blue Devils up 8-0 with 6:53 left in the first quarter.
Pledger scored again with 8 seconds left in the quarter when he returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown. Banks again completed a 2-point conversion pass and Tift went up 16-0.
Rashad Daniels scored on a 1-yard run Tift up 23-0 with 5:34 left in the half.
Colquitt scored with 22 seconds left in the half when John Gray recovered a Tift County fumble in the Blue Devils end zone.
Tift’s Will Hutto intercepted a Packers pass on the third play of the third quarter and Daniels scored from 7 yards out moments later. Banks’ 2-point conversion run put Tift County up 31-6 with 5:48 left in the third quarter.
The final Tift County score came on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Banks to Michael Whitehead, putting the Blue Devils up 37-6.
The Packers final score came on a 6-yard run by Darryl Phillips with 2:40 left in the game.
Colquitt County, which lost its previous game 6-0 at Coffee when the Trojans scored with 6 seconds left in the game, finishes the season with a 2-4 record.
