Published October 24, 2009 10:32 pm - MOULTRIE — The Moultrie MGs traveled to Panama City, Fla., on October 17-18 for the Fall into Edgewater Gymnastics Competition and after the third competition of the year, nearly all team members have at least one qualification score of 32.0 all around for the state meets.

Gymnasts have strong meet in Edgewater



MOULTRIE — The Moultrie MGs traveled to Panama City, Fla., on October 17-18 for the Fall into Edgewater Gymnastics Competition and after the third competition of the year, nearly all team members have at least one qualification score of 32.0 all around for the state meets.

The Level 4 team placed third with its highest team score of 109.60.

Vault was the team's highest scoring event of the day with everyone scoring a 9.00 or higher.

Taylor McCord broke the MG team record in the all around with a 36.325 to place second in the Child B age division.

“Taylor is becoming an all around gymnast, performing well on all events,” said coach Pat Murphy-Meier.

McCord placed first on vault, 9.5; second on bars, 9.0 and floor, 9.125;, and 4th on beam, 8.7. RebekahWard was right behind her with a 36.075 all around for second place in the senior division. Ward placed second on floor, 9.325 and third on vault, 9.35.

Parker Baker, senior division, had her best all around with a 36.025 for third place. Baker placed first on bars, 9.10, second on beam, 8.95, and fourth on floor, 8.775, which were all personal bests for her.

Amber Clifton had a solid performance scoring a 34.60 all around for fifth place in the senior age division.

Clifton also received fifth on vault, 9.275, beam, 8.5, and floor, 8.75.

Ashley Haynes nailed her vault and received 1st place with a 9.5, a new personal best. Haynes also received third on bars, 8.875 and floor, 8.95, both of which were also personal bests.

Lauren Coop placed 9th in the senior division all around with a 33.375. Coop also achieved personal bests on bars, 8.675 and floor, 8.425.

Finishing out senior division was Abbie Galphin. Galphin earned her first nine in this sport on vault with a 9.2 for sixth place.

“Abbie's eyes just lit up when she saw her score. The whole team was so proud,” coach Elizabeth Harrington said.

Lillian Fagan, Child A age division, placed third in the all around with a personal best of 35.975, third place. Fagan placed second on beam, 8.925, and accomplished personal bests on bars, 8.825 and floor, 9.025.

Joining Fagan in the Child A division was Katie Galphin, who had a personal best day on all events with her highest score being a 9.025 on vault and a 32.875 all around for 9th place.
