MOULTRIE - Heath Lamb finished third in the Region 1-AAAAA cross country meet in Macon on Thursday and will be the lone Colquitt County representative to next month’s state meet.

Both the Packers and Lady Packers finished fifth and did not qualify for the state meet.

“As young as we were and with as many ninth-graders as we have on both o the boys and girls, it wasn’t unexpected,” Colquitt County coach Mell Wier said. “The teams that beat us all had older kids. But it’s still disappointing, especially for our seniors.”

Lamb, who turned in a time of 17:21, was one of only two seniors on the boys team. Jonathan Cauthen, who ran a 21:18, was the other.

The girls team’s seniors are Anna Hall, Morgan Hayes and Carly Banks.

Warner Robins finished first in the boys race, followed by Houston County, Tift County, Valdosta, Colquitt County, Lowndes, Northside and Coffee.

Also running for the Packers on Thursday were Richard Smith, who had an 18:47; Kyle Tolbert, 20:04; Elias Moreno, 20:26; Jared May, 20:32; and Ben Hoover, 21:04.

In the junior varsity race, Colquitt County’s Jose Zunun ran a 20:48; Conner Walsh, 22:09; Landon Rehberg, 22:11; Lance Lott, 22:45; Ismael Moreno, 23:50; and Raymond Jenkins, 30:20.

Hall finished in 10th place for the girls team with a time of 23:09. Lindsey Causey was 11th with a 23:26. Also running for the Lady Packers were freshman Aislin Sheffield, who had a 24:30; Banks, 24:57; freshman Lindsey Stapleton, 25:04; Hayes, 25:09; and Lacey Webb, 25:26.

Colquitt County eighth-grader Kayla Webbe ran in the state junior varsity race and finished first with a 24:06, a time that would have ranked third among the varsity girls runners.

Also running for the junior varsity girls were Samantha Price, Hannah Miley, Natalie Griffin, Meg Robinson and Taylor Humphries.

Tift County was the surprising girls region winner. The Lady Devils were followed by Valdosta, Warner Robins, Houston County, Colquitt County, Lowndes, Northside and Coffee.
