MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team split a pair of matches with Lowndes and Cook on Wednesday at the Pineland gymnasium in its third competition of the season.
The middle school Packers lost their season-opener last Wednesday by four points to Pine Grove then placed sixth out of 14 teams in the Viking tournament at Lowndes last Saturday.
Hudson May won his weight class in the Lowndes tournament.
On Wednesday, Colquitt fell to Lowndes 54-27.
The Packers got pins from Austin Hunnicutt, Braden Flinchum and Ladon Sanchez and got decisions from Garrett May, Hudson May and Garrett Robinson.
The Packers got a split when they defeated Cook 27-12.
George Zeanah, Charlie Zeanah, Jamoree Pace and Hudson May had pins against the Hornets.
Hart Sumner won by a decision.
In the 46-42 loss to Pine Grove last week, the Packers received pins from Hunnicutt, Flinchum, George Zeanah, Kiarron Hendry, Garrett May, Hudson May and Charlie Zeanah.
In Saturday’s tournament at Lowndes, May got the Packers only weight-class championship, placing first in 128-pound class.
Turning in runner-up finishes were Garrett May, at 121 pounds; Nick Amador at 135 pounds; and Javier Martinez at 170 pounds.
George Zeanah and Cedric Roberts took third-place finishes at 82 pounds.
Hendry also had a third-place finish at 98 pounds.
Other placing third were Charlie Zeanah, at 135; Hunnicutt, at 155; and Flinchum at 225.
Colquitt County will return to the mats on Monday when they travel to Tift County. The middle school Packers will be back at the Pineland gymnasium at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, when they play host to Tift County and Pine Grove.
