Seventh-grade baseball team defeats Lowndes

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County seventh-grade baseball team defeated Lowndes 8-5 on Tuesday at Packer Park.

Buck Blalock started on the mound and went the first five innings, giving up two runs and striking out seven.

Right-hander Austin Singletary pitched the final two innings and gave up the final three Lowndes runs.

The Packers pounded out 13 hits, including three by Gage Kent.

Hayden Bledsoe had a double and a single and Chason Fannin had two singles.

Singletary and Wheeler Hunnicutt each had a double.

Blalock, Jacob Coots, Ian Brinson and John Burdon each had one hit.

The victory in the first game since the Spring Break raises the seventh-grade baseball team’s record to 9-3.

The seventh-graders will be back at Packer Park at 4 p.m. today to play host to Tift County.

The seventh-grade Packers also are scheduled to play host to Hahira at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

     When Colquitt County golf coach Donald Dale postponed the March 29 Packer Invitational in advance of what was supposed to be a stormy day, he anticipated most of the teams would make the trip to Moultrie for the rescheduled event this Saturday.
