VFW wins Junior softball opener

MOULTRIE — VFW won its Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department Junior girls softball opener on Tuesday, defeating Fuller’s 11-1.

Lauren Beck, Morgan Fedd and Savannah Boozer each scored two runs for VFW.

In Mite League play on Tuesday, Park Regency bounced back from a season-opening loss to defeat M&M Diesel 12-2.

Karleigh Walden, Brooke Durrence, Karli Ellis and Kelsey Mock each scored twice for Park Regency.

Little Debbie raised its Tiny Mite record to 2-0 with a 15-12 victory over Barfield Realty.

Jada Horne, Reagan Young, Kylie Davis, Lizette Nunez, Kenna Johnson and Kalise Richardson each scored twice for Little Debbie.

Allie Boatwright scored three times an Maggie Parker, Claire Whitfield and Jessica Lamb each scored twice for Barfield Realty.

     When Colquitt County golf coach Donald Dale postponed the March 29 Packer Invitational in advance of what was supposed to be a stormy day, he anticipated most of the teams would make the trip to Moultrie for the rescheduled event this Saturday.

    The Colquitt County boys soccer team celebrates its 1-0 victory over Coffee on Wednesday in Douglas that gave the Packers the Region 1-AAAAAA championship. It was the first boys soccer region championship since 1999. The Packers will play host to Westlake in the first round of the state tournament next week.
