JV Packers defeat Cook

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity baseball team used eight singles and some outstanding pitching from Clayton Brown and Ryan Chatman to defeat Cook 8-2 on Wednesday at Ike Aultman Field.

The JV team will take a 3-0 record into its meeting with Region 1-AAAAA's Tift County next Wednesday.

Preston Berry, Ross Goforth, Gabe Mobley, Jonah Bozeman, Andy Bush, Drew Penuel, Wade Hawes and Adam Merritt each ahd base hits.

Clayton Brown went the first five innings and did not give up a run or a hit. He walked three and struck out two while throwing 63 pitches.

"He look real good," pitching coach Zach Grage said.

Ryan Chatman threw the final two innings and gave up the two runs, although neither was earned. He gave up one hit, which was of the infield variety, hit a batter and walked three. He had one strikeout.

The Colquitt County ninth-grade team, which tied Lawton Chiles 3-3 in its only game so far, will travel to Valdosta for a 5 p.m. game today.

     Kaitlyn Mitchell of the Moultrie Sharks Swim Team won gold and silver medals in the GRPA State Class B/C Swim Meet held Friday and Saturday at the Baldwin Drive Aquatic Center in Tifton.
