Glenn runner-up in Wildcat Invitational

MOULTRIE — Anderson Glenn turned in a second-place finish to lead the short-handed Colquitt County wrestling team in last weekend’s Valdosta Wildcats Invitational.

The Packers fielded wrestlers in just eight weight classes.

Glenn was outstanding in the tournament and fell just short of winning the 138-pound weight class when he lost 3-2 in the finals to Niko DeAugustina of Pasco, Fla.

Glenn opened with a pin of Devante Durham of Ware County.

His next two victories were pins of Region 1-AAAAAA opponents, Norman Davis of Lowndes and Matt Strob of Coffee. The pin of Strob send Glenn to the finals, where he came up just short.

Colquitt County’s Javier Martinez split his two matches in the tournament. Wrestling at 195, Martinez won pin at 1:04 of the first  period over Tyler Messer of Pasco. He then dropped at 14-8 decision to Anthony Rolle of Ware County and a 3-2 decision to Sam Nunn of Tift County.

Martinez took fifth place with a 10-3 decision over Kenneth Puryear of Berrien. Also wrestling for the Packers in Valdosta were Jordan Rosales, who went 1-3 at 113 pounds; Quan Williams, who was 1-2 at 120; Emirin Barrera, who was 1-1 at 126; Jorge Martinez, who was 1-2 at 132; Hart Sumner, 0-2 at 145; and Jacob Comer, 0-2 at 152.
