The Colquitt County Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its winter sports banquet on Monday. The award winners were, from left, Hayes Sumner, middle school wrestling; Hayden Suggs, junior varsity wrestling; Javier Martinez, varsity wrestling; Tyrese King, junior varsity boys basketball; Jay Tolbert, varsity boys basketball; and Abbi Beth Paulk, varsity girls basketball. The winners were either nominated by their coaches or voted in by their teammates. The criteria sought athletes who best demonstrate FCA core values of integrity, service, teamwork and excellence.
Smith, Parrish honored by Special Olympics
Two Colquitt County High seniors who began with working with the county’s Special Olympics program when they were in elementary school and have continued their involvement as they approach graduation were honored by the local organization this week.
Colquitt tennis teams sweep Valdosta
The Colquitt County girls and boys tennis teams traveled to Valdosta on Tuesday and came back with victories in their first Region 1-AAAAAA matches of the season.
No hits over six innings
Griffin Simmons did not allow a hit over six innings on Monday as the Colquitt County junior varsity baseball team defeated Crisp County 9-1 in the first game of a doubleheader at Ike Aultman Field. Wheeler Hunnicut completed the no-hitter by pitching the seventh inning. The JV Packers won the second game 6-4 to raise their record to 7-2.
After surgery, Forehand back on court for Emmanuel College
After enjoying one of the Colquitt County’s most outstanding tennis careers, David Forehand had his sights set on continuing to play for Emmanuel College.
