Storm causes rainouts

MOULTRIE —  Rain that rolled through Colquitt County has led to five athletic events being rained out on Monday and five more being called off today.

Rained out on Monday were middle school girls and boys soccer matches against Thomas County Central scheduled to be played in Thomasville; and eighth-grade baseball game against Coffee set to be played at Packer Park; and junior varsity boys and girls soccer matches against Tift County, also scheduled for Packer Park.

The junior varsity soccer games have been rescheduled and will be played played at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Packer Park.

Washed out today are the seventh-grade baseball game against Coffee at Packer Park; the boys and girls varsity tennis matches against Coffee  scheduled for Packer Park; the ninth-grade and junior varsity baseball games against Lawton Chiles High at Packer Park; and the rifle match against Worth County schedule to be held in Sylvester.

The rifle match was moved to Wednesday.

As of Monday afternoon, there was no report of if or when the other events will be made up.

  • Rain postpones soccer; Lady Packer still on

    Today's Region 1-AAAAAA soccer match between Colquitt County and Coffee in Douglas has been postponed and will be played next Wednesday, April 23.

    Also, Saturday morning's girls soccer match against Worth County at Packer Park has been called off.

    The varsity soccer matches scheduled for next Tuesday at Worth County have been canceled to allowed the teams to be well-rested for the important region matches the next day.

    The Lady Packer Invitational golf tournament scheduled for Saturday is still on. Teams will begin teeing off at 12:30 p.m.

    The Colquitt County junior varsity baseball team split a season-ending doubleheader with Lowndes on Thursday at Ike Aultman Field to finish its season with an 18-9 record.

    Callon Kubiak pitched a no-hitter to lead Hutchinson-Traylor to a 4-0 Midget League victory over Mobley Plant on Thursday at the Magnolia Sports Complex.

  • Boys tennis team heading to East Coweta

    The Colquitt County boys tennis team will travel to Sharpsburg on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. first-round Class AAAAAA match against Region 3 champion East Coweta.

    Colquitt County football fans who were looking forward to making the trip to Atlanta to see the Packers play in the Corky Kell Classic on Aug. 23 can still make the trip north, but will have to head to a different stadium.
