Driver faces homicide charge

MOULTRIE — A woman who was driving a car in which a passenger was killed on Dec. 20 has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the death.

Marbella Rosales, 24, 3101 Old Adel Road, was charged Monday with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, driving without a license, open container in vehicle and speeding, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reports said.

The Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the crash, filed the charges. In the warrant filed by the agency, Rosales is accused of causing the death of 24-year-old Martin Martinez due to her driving recklessly.

Initial state patrol reports said that Rosales lost control while driving north on Veterans Parkway South near the intersection of Pearl Street. The accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 20. When the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche went off the roadway it overturned multiple times, the reports said. Martinez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.

Rosales was airlifted from the crash to a hospital out of town.
