MOULTRIE — The fifth annual Spring Fling and Backyard Barbecue Contest is just around the corner, and anyone interested in being a part of it is encouraged to sign up now.

City of Moultrie Main Street Director Amy Johnson said reservations are being taken now for anyone interested in entering the backyard barbecue contest or hosting an arts and crafts booth. For more information or to register, contact her at 890-5455 or visit www.moultriega.com.

There will be several additions to this year’s festival, and Johnson said auditions are being held for one of those additions. This year will feature a “Who’s Got Talent?” contest on the main stage, sponsored by the Arts Center Theatre (ACT). There will be two divisions, a junior contest for anyone ages 14 to 17 and an adult division.

Anyone interested in being a part of “Who’s Got Talent?” will first have to audition their talent, Johnson said. Any talent will be welcomed, including singing, and auditions will be held today, March 27, at the Colquitt County Arts Center; junior auditions start at 5 p.m. and adult start at 7 p.m. Contact Johnson or the Arts Center to arrange an audition time if unable to make the Thursday audition.

Johnson said this year’s Spring Fling will have three days of performances and events, starting Thursday, April 17. Southwest Georgia Ballet will perform a “Ribbons and Strings Performance” at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Arts Center.

Spring Fling will be kicked off with a free concert featuring T. Graham Brown at 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, on the courthouse square. Brown, originally from Athens, has several top-10 country hits, including “I Tell It Like It Used To Be,” “Hell and High Water” and “Darlene.” He has also been featured in jingles for Coca-Cola, Taco Bell, Ford trucks, Budwiser beer and 7-Up commercials.

A full day of activities will take place starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, on the square, and Johnson said two stages will be set up to accommodate everything. One stage will feature performances by bands including Quarter After Disorder, Just June and Side View.

The main stage will feature a variety of performances and events, such as dance routines, the Cute Critter pet contest, award presentations and the “Who’s Got Talent?” performances, Johnson said. There will also be a poker run, sponsored by the Humane Society of Colquitt County, animals from Reed Bingham State Park, arts and crafts booths and the Kiwanis pancake breakfast. There will also be children’s activities available throughout the square.

There will also be a golf cart awarded during Spring Fling that is currently being raffled off, Johnson said. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Main Street office or several downtown businesses.
