Billy Mack Hortman, 72, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ga.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Billingsley and the Rev. Mark Stone officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Casketbearers will be James Weathers, Beau Weathers, Joshua Stephens, Tony Howell, Nathan Avera and Joey French. Trevor Howell will serve as an honorary casketbearer.
Born June 24, 1937, in Doerun, he was the son of the late Elmer J. “Bill” Hortman and Annie Kate Bass Hortman. He retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service and was also formerly associated with the Ball Container Plant. He was a member of Berlin Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Grace McCall Weathers Hortman of Moultrie; one son, Billy Scott Hortman and wife Celeste of Tampa, Fla.; two stepsons, James Weathers and wife Kay and Mike Weathers, all of Moultrie; one stepdaughter, Regina Cash and husband David of Doerun; one sister, Brenda H. Norman and friend Walter Patterson of Moultrie; eight grandchildren, Morgan Brianne Hortman, Lillian Belle Hortman, Randi Weathers and friend Joey, Emily Weathers and fiancée Corey, Beau Weathers, Jennifer Howell and husband Tony, Joshua Stephens, and Lorianna Weathers; and five great-grandchildren, Lexi Haman, Dalton Haman, Macaylee French, Seth Stephens and Trevor Howell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 18, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
