MOULTRIE — Leroy Gordon, 87, of Moultrie, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Cashwell and the Rev. Ronald Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Ken Ricks, Michael Norman, Steve Bass, Wandell Boyd, Larry Lairsey and Stephen Godley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mt. Olive John B. Pope Sunday School Class.

Born April 1, 1922, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Pat Gordon and Aline Barber Gordon. He was retired from Riverside Mfg. as a supervisor in the shipping department. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 45 years. He loved the outside and he loved his garden, his family said.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. “Bill” Gordon.

Survivors include his wife, Solita Barfield Gordon of Moultrie; sons, Van Gordon and wife Melissa of Moultrie and Michael Gordon and wife Pat of Moultrie; five grandchildren, April Bentley and husband Brad of Moultrie, Richard Gordon of Atlanta, Ga., Adam Gordon of Valdosta, Ga., and Matthew Gordon and Cade Gordon, both of Moultrie; two great-grandchildren, Amber Chitty and Caleb Chitty, both of Moultrie; and sister-in-law, Shirley Gordon of Moultrie.

Visitation will be today, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m.
