Colquitt County High School Athletic Director Darius Dawson spoke recently at the February meeting of the Moultrie Lions Club.
The Moultrie Lions Club presented Dawson with a check for $11,000 for the high school’s athletic department. Dawson explained how the athletic department would divide the money proportionately among all of CCHS sports, based on the number of students involved in the sport. This will ensure that all students will benefit. The money resulted from sales at the concession stands at the CCHS football games, which are run by the Moultrie Lions Club.
Dawson discussed the very successful football season culminating at the AAAAA state championship game in the super dome in December. Several team members have already accepted scholarships and agreed to play for specific colleges. Cross County and Soccer team members have received scholarships as well. He pointed out the strength of CCHS students in a variety of sports, including basketball, diving and swimming, among others. Other schools continue to find strong competition when competing against the quality teams and individuals at CCHS, he said.
The Moultrie Lions Club will also take a major role in supporting the CCHS football banquet, which will be held soon.
The Moultrie Lions Club celebrated its 75th anniversary in February. In serving the community during these years, the Lions have operated the football concession stand for over 50 years.
