MOULTRIE — Sarah Louise Walden, 91, of Moultrie, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Berlin Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Billingsley and the Rev. Mark Stone officiating. Graveside services will be held 5 p.m. that same day in Manchester, Ga. in Meriwether Memorial Gardens.

Born July 26, 1918, in Meriwether County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Rufus Glenn Fowler and Lula Owen Fowler. She was raised in Meriwether County and worked many years at Callaway Mills. Following a brief move to Mobile, Ala., where her late husband Albert Jackson Ward worked in the shipyards during World War II, she and her husband moved back to Meriwether County with young son Hayward Jackson Ward and opened a small family grocery store, Hillside Grocery. A Christian, she was a member of Manchester Church of the Nazarene. Following her husband’s death, she married Eugene Walden and moved to Moultrie in 1978 with son Albert Daniel Ward, where she served as homemaker and caregiver.

“While in Moultrie, Louise, always artistic, discovered a love of painting late in her life and delighted in sharing her art with family and friends. She lovingly attended to her late husband, Eugene, during his last few years. While slowed down during her last year of life, Louise placed a love of God first in her life, and she dearly loved her church family at Berlin Baptist Church,” said her family.

She drove up until the final months of her life and was always visiting shut-in friends and family, her family also said.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Jackson Ward and Eugene Walden; an infant son, Gary Lynn Ward; and sisters, Ruby Gill and Pauline Gill.

Survivors include sons, Danny Ward and wife Tami of Moultrie and Jack Ward and wife Nadine of Montrose, Colo.; step-sons, Samuel Walden and wife Nell of Adel, Ga. and Lynwood Walden and wife Rita of Moultrie; step-daughter, Shirley Pearson and husband Harvey of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Glen Fowler of Manchester, Ga. and Rufus Fowler Jr. of Florida; a sister, Norma Kent of Georgetown, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Jackson Ward, Ellen Soltau, Brad Ward, Bill Ward, Sarah Ward, Ryan Ward and Rebekah Ward; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today, Sept. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
