Personally, one thing I enjoy most is celebrating our unique community and the history behind it. That being said, as curator, I love a good historical exhibit. This year, we have two fantastic exhibits that are rooted in Colquitt County History.

Opening August 16, 2019, the Arts Center is excited to partner with Colquitt Regional Medical Center to celebrate the 80th anniversary of healthcare in Moultrie-Colquitt County. This exhibit will feature a timeline beginning with the opening of the first sanitarium and will take the viewer through all of the advancements and expansions that have led to the Colquitt Regional Medical Center that we know today. We hope to commemorate the leadership, physicians, clinical staff, and employees who have served at the heart our local hospital.

Opening  on October 3, 2019, the Colquitt County Arts Center is proud to partner with Daughters of the American Revolution and regional quilters to present the 2019 fall quilt exhibit, “Connecting Threads.” To honor the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War “Connecting Threads” will also include showing of locally made Quilts of Valor. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts.  A call has been issued for Quilts of Valor for the fall’s quilt show at the Colquitt County Arts Center.  Quilts of Valor will be presented to veterans at the Opening Reception at the Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m

The registration deadline to enter a quilt in the show is Sept. 13. There is no entry fee for Quilts of Valor but there is a $10 registration fee for quilts for the general show. Quilts should be delivered to the Arts Center before Sept. 20. Registration forms are available at Arts Center or online at www.colquittcountyarts.com. Additional information for making Quilts of Valor can be found at the organization’s website  www.qovf.org/make-a-qov or by emailing Leimer at  suzqu17@yahoo.com. This exhibit will open on Oct. 3 and run through Nov. 4 in the Vereen Gallery at the Colquitt County Arts Center.

All Arts Center exhibit are free and open to the public, so drop in anytime Monday-Friday from 10:00-5:30 PM to take a look at what we have to offer. It’s the perfect excuse to get out of this sweltering summer heat!  For more information on exhibits or classes as well as the multitude of other activities going on here at the Arts Center, feel free to give us a call at 229.985.1922, drop me a line at aparrisharts@gmail.com, or visit our website at www.colquittcountyarts.com!
