Instead of a new owner, Rami, Moultrie's most famous celebrity canine, got a new title on Saturday: ambassador.
Rami will remain with the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society to continue his mission of encouraging people to adopt shelter dogs and cats, said Dawn Blanton, center, president of the organization's board. Blanton made the announcement on Saturday during an open house that included the dedication of a new dog walk.
The Humane Society received more than 1,000 applications from around the country and even other countries before cutting it off due to the sheer volume of work it put on the staff to evaluate them, Blanton said earlier this week.
About 15 dogs were adopted during the open house, and the Humane Society had seen a sharp uptick in the number of adoptions in recent weeks since Rami went viral on the Internet and made national news shows.
