An Albany murder suspect was caught Friday in Moultrie after the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that he was working at a chicken processing plant in the county.
Sherman De Juan Northern, 35, 1403 Gillispie Ave. Apt. A., was arrested in a wooded area near Sanderson Farms after a caller saw Northern profiled on a crime tips television show, sheriff’s reports said.
Northern had himself been tipped off by a friend about the television show and was trying to escape as officers approached the facility, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Sgt. Shawn Bostick said.
Bostick, who was driving a pickup truck, said that Northern walked out of the woods because he did not recognize the truck as a law enforcement vehicle. At that time Bostick was able to arrest Northern without incident.
The Albany Police Department did not return a call Monday seeking information on Northern.
Bostick said that Northern is accused of taking part in a gang initiation beating that resulted in a death in 2008.
Northern was housed at Colquitt County Jail for a few hours before he was picked up by Albany police.
