Funston Elementary School students recently entered the Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl poster contest. This contest is for children nationwide to become aware of Smokey’s fire prevention message ‘Only You Can Prevent Wildfires’ and Woodsy’s conservation ethics ‘Lend a Hand, Care for the Land.’ The posters will compete in state and possibly national competition. Winners will be announced February 2012. Funston entrants­ include, first grade, Matt Rakeshaw and Geraldine Garcia; third grade, Ester Macias, Railey Stripling, Jade Horne and Zachary Arnett; fourth grade, Fulton King and Luis Lorenzo; and fifth grade, Hannah Butler
