A Moultrie woman accused of firing a weapon during a confrontation with a step-brother faces assault charges in the incident.
Police arrested Jenny Leeann Lott two days after they were called to investigate a report of gunshots in the 1300 block of 11th Avenue Southwest.
Lott is accused of firing a gun while arguing with her step-brother Tommy Strickland on Monday at her residence.
Stickland was not hit by a bullet, but ran into a nearby wooded area and was not located by police until the following day. There was concern at the time that he could have collapsed from an injury and needed medical attention.
A neighbor reported that Strickland had been shot and had gone into the woods behind her residence.
Police searched the area for several hours in an attempt to locate the victim. An uncle told them later in the day that he had seen him and that he was unhurt, but police wanted to talk with him to confirm that report.
Strickland had some minor scrapes from his trek through the woods, police said. They were not sure whether Lott was intentionally trying to shoot Strickland or just trying to frighten him.“She pointed the gun at him and she fired the gun,” Underwood said. “He thought she shot at him.”
Police have recovered the weapon, which Underwood did not identify.“She admitted to it, (that) she fired the gun,” he said. “She showed us where it was at.”
Underwood did not say what the Monday argument was about.
“This was an ongoing dispute,” he said.
Lott, 37, 1315-B 11th Ave. S.W.. was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault.
