MOULTRIE — The City of Moultrie has selected GovDeals, a state-of- the-art, online auction service for local, state and federal government agencies, to conduct online sales of its surplus equipment and assets.

Moultrie joins 120 governments in Georgia and more than 1,100 governments across the country who have adopted GovDeals’ patented online auction solution that delivers pre-screened and qualified buyers and which translates into higher prices for auctioned equipment and assets.

“GovDeals will help us get the most money for our surplus vehicles and equipment by allowing us to offer them to a wider base of buyers,” said Gwen Smith, director of purchasing. “We can sell online as soon as an item is declared surplus, which reduces depreciation and storage costs. It is a win-win solution for us.”

A recent study by the State of Tennessee showed that equipment and assets brought 47 percent more sold through GovDeals than via prior live public auctions.

Among the items to be initially auctioned beginning on Monday, March 17, are a variety of Ford Crown Victorias, mini-buses, pickup trucks, lawn mowers, furniture, trailers, tools, CD players, a four-wheeler, a fire truck, a rear loader garbage truck, a welder, a pump, an air conditioner and heating system, tractor tires and more. Interested parties will need to register to bid online at www.govdeals.com. Bidders can register free of charge at the GovDeals Web site, which can also be accessed through Moultrie’s Web site at www.moultriega.com.

If you do not have a computer, computer and Internet access are available at the Moultrie/Colquitt County Library.
