MOULTRIE — The current city manager for Camilla was selected Monday as Moultrie’s next city manager.

Moultrie City Council voted unanimously to select Michael R. Scott, 57, as the next city manager. He was selected over Deron W. King, 46, who was named as a finalist in February.

Interim City Manager Tom Berry said Scott will begin serving as city manager around April 15. Berry will remain as Moultrie’s interim manager during the transition time. Scott’s final day on the job as Camilla city manager will be on April 14.

Moultrie Mayor William McIntosh said he and many members of the Moultrie City Council have known Scott for a while and look forward to working with him.

Scott said in February he has been city manager in Camilla for the last 11 years, and he was a public works and utilities director in West Virginia for 24 years before coming to Camilla. Scott said Camilla, like Moultrie, offers residents CNS Cable along with its other full service of utilities, which will be beneficial in his role here.

When he was named as a finalist, Scott said he planned to meet with the city council and discuss its direction and where they hope to go. Once he knows where the city wants to go and grow, he will work to accomplish that as best as he can, he said.

“We will set our sights on hitting that target,” Scott said. “I don’t see any hurdles in the way.”

Scott is married and has an adult son, currently serving in the U.S. Army, and a granddaughter.
