A clerk at a Moultrie convenience store reported a customer pulled a fast one on her during a busy time Thursday afternoon — but she gave police the name of the man she says did it.

The clerk at Packer Food Mart, 1409 N. Main St., reported that she cashed a check for the customer in the amount of $182.68. He wanted to buy a money order. She placed the check on the counter as she prepared the money order, and he slipped it off while she was distracted. Then, he gave it to her again to be cashed a second time.

The clerk told the officer numerous people cash checks from National Beef at the same time, so it didn’t catch her attention. About a half-hour later, she made inventory and found a check missing. She reviewed the surveillance tape and saw the customer grab the check off the counter and saw him give her the same check again.

The video and the receipts from both transactions were taken for evidence, police said.
