A man who indicated he had a handgun robbed a Moultrie convenience store in the early hours Monday.
Moultrie police said that the man placed two bottles of water on the counter at Murphy Oil, 505 Veterans Parkway S., and then demanded money after the clerk rang them up on the cash register. He kept placing his hands around his pants as if he had a weapon in order to get the employee to obey his commands, said Moultrie Police Department Inv. William Baillargeon.
“The guy goes in, he goes in the bathroom, he stays in the bathroom minutes or so and comes back out,” he said. “He has some kind of garment over his head and a ball cap.”
It was at that time he took two bottles of water up to the counter, Baillargeon said.
After taking the undetermined amount of money, the assailant took the clerk outside and took her over to the area behind Oxley’s grocery, where he told her to wait five seconds before leaving, he said. He then headed toward Fifth Avenue and the clerk returned to the store and called police.
