MOULTRIE, Ga. — Traffic on both East Central Avenue and East First Avenue is being routed around a fire at the Lastinger Lawn building on East Central.
Moultrie Fire Department Battalion Chief David Croft said no one was hurt in the fire.
Croft said no flames were visible when firefighters arrived, but there was heavy smoke coming from the building. The smoke had filled the building to floor level, he said, so the firefighters who went in faced a dangerous situation.
“It took us a long time for us to get in and see where the fire was,” he said.
As of about 2 p.m., firefighters were focused on putting out hot spots and ventilating the smoke from the building. Croft said they’d try to determine how the fire started after those immediate needs were dealt with.
The building also houses a thrift shop.
