MOULTRIE — Four people were apprehended after they allegedly got into a fight Monday night.

Jerry Thomas Barfield, 52, and Peggy Susan Barfield, 51, both of 275 Dandron Road, and Joel Travis Barfield, 28, of 120 Whitehall Road in Ellenton, were each charged with affray. Joel Barfield and Rueben Collick, 38, of 146 Janette Lane, were each charged with criminal trespassing as well.

Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies were called to a house on Dandron Road at 8:37 p.m. Monday about a fight that was about to occur. The deputies saw a Ford pickup truck in the roadway with people standing around it and was directed farther down the road to a Dodge Caravan.

When the deputies reached the Caravan, they allegedly saw four people fighting in the middle of the road. Joel Barfield allegedly was holding a wooden object, later identified as an ax handle. He chased Collick as Collick ran from the scene and threw the ax handle away.

The Barfields allegedly were irate and screaming and using profanities toward Collick when the deputies arrived at the scene. The deputies were able to separate everyone until additional deputies arrived at the scene.

The deputies then spoke to a witness, who stated the Caravan went by his house seconds before the Ford truck drove by. Two men, later identified as Joel and Jerry Barfield, allegedly got out of the van and approached the truck, driven by Collick.

Joel Barfield was carrying the ax handle, and the witness stated he allegedly used it to break out the truck’s passenger window. Collick and a passenger got out of the truck, and Collick allegedly grabbed a metal object and swung it at Joel and Jerry Barfield. Collick then allegedly threw the metal object at the Caravan, breaking a passenger window, before the three got into a physical fight.

Another witness stated Peggy Barfield allegedly got out of the Caravan and joined in the alleged fight, being punched in the face during the altercation. The deputies believed the fight stemmed from an earlier incident where another man was assaulted in a field while he was with Collick and Joel Barfield.
