MOULTRIE -- Check your blood pressure? Check your oil?

Reading recent newspaper advertisements, some residents are concerned that Colquitt Regional Medical Center is going into the automobile servicing business. Not so, says hospital officials.

"We're not in the lube business. We're not opening up a gasoline station or anything like that," CRMC President Jim Lowry said.

CRMC is simply acting as an intermediary to contract with a mobile servicing business that would provide full service oil changes, car washes and auto detailing on hospital grounds as a benefit to hospital employees and CRMC physicians, Lowry said. Employees would pay for the service, and the contractor would be responsible for cleanup.

"The hospital's not going to pay a dime," he said.

The hospital employee committee had heard that such services are available to other industries and decided to offer workplace auto service as another perk to working at CRMC, he said,

"I don't know if it's going to be a saleable product. We're not guaranteeing anybody that they're going to get so much business, because I don't have a clue at this moment to what the person would charge to have their cars lubed," he said.
