MOULTRIE -- A Moultrie man was apprehended by Colquitt County sheriff's deputies Wednesday after he allegedly kidnapped his 11-year-old son and assaulted the child's mother Sunday morning.

The 11-year-old boy was found and returned to his mother.

Anthony Lee Johnson, 32, of 1509 11th St. S.W., was charged with two counts of kidnapping, battery and two counts of cruelty to children.

Carol Johnson reported the incident to police after the incident took place at 10:35 a.m. Sunday at a friend's residence on 10th Avenue Northwest.

Police reports said the Anthony Johnson pulled up to the residence and asked to speak with Carol Johnson. She went to meet him at his Expedition to see what he wanted, and he told her to get the 11-year-old boy and get inside the vehicle.

When Carol Johnson refused to get inside the Expedition, police said, Anthony Johnson called for the boy and ordered him to get inside the vehicle. Carol Johnson said the boy obeyed then she heard the doors lock.

Carol Johnson said she ran down the road so that she could get the address of the residence and call 911 with it, reports said. She said Anthony Johnson drove the Expedition and caught up with her, jumped out of the vehicle and grabbed her. She said Anthony Johnson attacked her and tried to pull her into the SUV.

She said she began to fight him and two relatives came to help. She said he released her and drove away with the boy still in the back seat.

When the officer arrived to get the report, reports said the ladies gave him three possible locations where Anthony Johnson could be going. Officers patrolled the area of all three locations, but Anthony Johnson and the 11-year-old were not found at any of them.

The Expedition was found in a parking space but without either of them inside, reports said. Both Anthony Johnson and the boy were found Wednesday, police said.
