MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was apprehended after he allegedly tore up a woman’s mail and ran from officers Tuesday afternoon.

Norris Lavelle McClendon, 38, of 800 Northside Drive, was charged with disorderly conduct (fourth offense) and duty to obey an officer.

Moultrie police officers were called to Shy Manor Drive at 4:02 p.m. Tuesday about a man taking another person’s mail. The officers tried to speak with McClendon, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, but he allegedly would not talk to them about the incident, police reports said.

The officers then spoke with Shonda McBride, who stated she had gone out to get her mail and was walking back to her residence when McClendon came up to her. He allegedly grabbed her mail and began opening it and also checked her pockets.

McBride stated she told McClendon she did not have a check in the mail, but he allegedly continued to open and tear up her mail. He began to walk around the parking lot, and that is when she called 911.

Officers and Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies again tried to speak with McClendon, but he allegedly kept walking away from them. Several officers and deputies then went to place him under arrest, but he allegedly ran away from them and refused to be handcuffed.

The officers then forced McClendon to the ground, and an officer used a taser on him to try and get him to comply. McClendon was eventually placed in handcuffs and was taken to Colquitt County Jail.
