A victim of a Saturday morning armed robbery reported being pistol whipped by one of four masked assailants who demanded money from a group of people in a parking lot.
The three victims reported to police that four masked men, two of whom were holding guns, approached them at about 1:25 a.m. and demanded money while they were in the parking lot of Walmart, 641 Veterans Parkway S.
“Based on what the victims said, basically a robbery occurs at gunpoint,” Moultrie Police Department Inv. William Baillargeon said Tuesday. “They came up telling them ‘give me what you’ve got.’”
Prior to the assault, parking lot cameras show a sport utility vehicle park close to the store, stay there a while with no one getting out and then driving around before parking farther from the store.
“What I observed from the surveillance video is what appears to be a red Chevrolet Tahoe-like vehicle pulls up on the side of a semi-truck trailer,” Baillargeon said. “It sits there a few minutes, (the driver) flashes lights on and off.”
Four people then get out of the SUV and approach Mark Hurst and Robert Avery, both of Norman Park, and Meredith Webb of Bowman.
The victims said that the men all were wearing masks, with two of them pointing guns at them as they demanded money, Baillargeon said. One checked pockets and took a checkbook and car keys. The checkbook was found in the area.
