MOULTRIE -- A Georgia State Patrol helicopter brought a day of searching to a happy conclusion Friday night when its infrared camera located an elderly man who had been missing about 13 hours.

Junior Flowers, 75, of Greenfield Church Road, left his home about 10 a.m. Friday and entered some nearby woods, according to rescue personnel. His family searched for him until about 3:45 p.m. then called 911.

Flowers was recently diagnosed with dementia and suffers from other health problems as well, according to Colquitt County Emergency Management Director Russell Moody.

Moody said responders searched into the night, and the Georgia State Patrol sent helicopters to assist. One of those helicopters located him and guided a search-and-rescue team to him about 11 p.m.

Moody said Flowers was "way out in the woods" when he was found, but he was in "good shape" once rescuers got him out.
